名古屋のダンスカンパニーafterimageを主宰されている服部哲郎さんに、
CIMJ茅野編の視察の様子をレポートしていただきました。
茅野編の開催を前に、読んでいただけるとワクワク度がアップします！
今回僕はご縁があって、坂本公成さんと２人で茅野市民館に見学に行かせていただくことになった。
茅野駅に降り立った印象はローカル、といえば聞こえは悪いかもしれないが、穏やかでゆったりとした空気が流れていた。
何より電車から外に出たときには２つの驚きがある。
１つはその涼しさ。
エアコン全盛の時代に、避暑地、なんて言葉を馬鹿にしていたが、僕の方が馬鹿だったようだ。
この快適さは本物である。
そしてもう１つは周囲ののどかな風景に溶け込みつつ、はっきりとした存在感を放つ茅野市民会館そのものである。
駅のホームと同じラインで平行に伸びるガラス張りの建物が、そうやって創られたことに明確な意図を感じさせる。
美しくありながら、嫌みがないのだ。
ホームの階段を上り、改札を出ると会館への入り口がすぐそばにある。
扉をくぐるとそこには先ほど駅から見えたガラス張りの内側の光景が広がっていた。
いや、正確には伸びていた。
なだらかな木目調のスロープがすっきりと伸びている。
高い天井と長いスロープ。そのスロープに沿って、隣には縦長の図書館。左右から最大限に取り入れられる自然光。
なんという斬新な構図だろうか。
こんなワクワクする場所で踊れるというのか。
ダンスに関わっていて本当によかったと早くも思ってしまう。
ここで踊れば、観客となるのは間違いなく向かい側の駅のホームで電車を待つ人々だ。
きっと驚くに違いない。
長くゆったりとしたスロープを下りながら僕はいろいろな想像を巡らせる。天井にも伸びた一本の長いラインが身体に伸びていく感覚を与える。
たどり着いたホワイエは広々とした気持ちよい空間。
灰色の丸い柱が高い天井まで真っ直ぐ延びているが空間に対する三次元的感覚を増幅させる。
普段、高い天井、というものを感覚で捉えるのは難しいが、自分の隣にある柱が天井まで続いていることによって天井までが空間なのだと知覚することができた。
その後、事業部部長であり担当の河西さんと会い館内を散策。
合理的かつ高いデザイン性を感じられる館内は美しく荘厳だ。
ワークショップのメイン会場となるアトリエも黒を基調にした落ち着いたデザイン。
高い天井が気持ちよい。公演ができそうなくらいしっかりとした空間だ。これは贅沢。
その後もコンサートホールやオーケストラピットなどを散策。
僕はあまりに美しいデザインに、言い換えれば、ちゃんとした建物に、この中で本当にジャムなどやって怒られたりしないだろうか、と不安になった。
が、待っていたのは全く違う答えだった。
大変興味を引く公成さんと河西さんの共通の見解は
この建物は使ってもらいたがってる、という点だ。
「こういう格式の高い綺麗な建物はそこに立っているだけで満足してしまう。」
という素晴らしい建物ならではの逆説的危機意識を公成さんは語ってくれた。
建築に遠慮するのではなく、場からエネルギーを得て、より面白い時間を作り出すために活用する、ということなのではないかと僕は思った。
確かにこの建物は真っ白な雪原のようだ。
１つ目の足あとをつけるのにためらいを感じてしまう。
しかし一度足あとをつけてしまえば、雪を使った様々な遊びがそこで見つかる。
茅野市民館はそれを望んでいるのだ。
そして忘れてはならないのが、この会館の人々のアグレッシブな姿勢だ。
公共施設ならではのお堅い雰囲気は全くない。
事業部の方々はよくある、お役所仕事、という言葉からはかけ離れたアグレッシブさとチャレンジブルさ。自分達の市民館に誇りを持ち、かつどんどん開いていこうという気持ちに感動した。
そしてこの建物を作り出した建築家、古屋誠章さんまでもが、そういった考え方であるという。
建物とコンタクトするという点において、もうこれほどまでに素晴らしい状況はない。
あらゆる好条件が揃い、全てが面白い時間を作り出す方向へ向かっているように思える。
これはもう、
いざ茅野へ！
である。
しかしながら、レポートを書くつもりがいつの間にか宣伝のようになってしまった。
が、書いている僕が本当にそう思ったことしか書かなかった結果なので、これは仕方ない。
茅野市民館で会いましょう。子供に帰った気持ちで楽しめることは間違いない。
